Context

App developers use promotions to boost sales and raise awareness for their products. Specific groups of users who have demonstrated interest in an app but haven’t made a purchase are more likely to convert if targeted by a promotion. Unlike general promo codes that are available to all users, targeted promo codes are delivered only to users in a selected cohort through push notifications and deposited in their promo hub.

Pain points

Developers had no way to create targeted promotional campaigns for specific user segments. Generic promotions underperformed, and developers lacked insights into which users were most likely to convert.

Process

Iterative prototyping focused on the campaign builder workflow, testing different levels of targeting complexity. We validated with both indie and mid-size developers to ensure the tool served the full spectrum.

Targeted promotions have demonstrated measurable improvements across key conversion and retention metrics. This feature re-engages high-intent users with personalized messaging and discounts, such as users who have wishlisted an app but haven’t purchased yet.
