How might we make it easier for shoppers to find deals in Google search?
Context
With current economic pressures, most shoppers are looking for discounts on their purchases. Google gets an estimated 3 billion shopping-related queries per day.
Pain points
Shoppers are usually interested in finding deals on the products they're looking to purchase but find them difficult to find and understand. The existing badging and annotation framework was confusing, with inconsistent visual treatment across surfaces.
Process
Through rapid prototyping and A/B testing, we evaluated badge placement, color treatments, and information density. We tested simplified badging systems against the existing complex framework to measure comprehension and engagement.
Results
The unified deals experience made deals significantly more discoverable and understandable across Google Shopping. The simplified badging framework replaced the previous confusing system with a clear, consistent visual language.
